• Build and run positions in the PJM Financial Transmission Rights market • Generate returns while keeping risk within defined limits • Build models of generation, load, and grid congestion to identify PJM trades • Analyze historical congestion, planned outages, changing market conditions, and new generation impacts on power flows • Track drivers affecting power pricing, supply, and grid reliability • Assess how larger energy transactions affect the existing FTR book • Apply quantitative methods to a fundamentals-led portfolio strategy • Trade long-term, annual, and monthly auctions, as well as the secondary market • Size and place bids and offers within the desk's risk appetite • Rework positions through secondary trades to add value or reduce exposure • Coordinate with adjacent desks so FTR positions support the broader energy book • Maintain accurate records and report performance regularly • Run disciplined risk processes and design congestion hedges • Track and report positions, mark-to-market, and key risk measures • Ensure activity complies with internal risk policy and applicable regulations • Monitor PJM grid changes, rule updates, and market conditions • Evaluate the impact of renewable build-out, plant retirements, and transmission projects on congestion • Cultivate relationships with counterparties and market stakeholders • Share market intelligence with internal teams and coordinate accordingly

🎯 Requirements

• Degree in finance, economics, engineering, math, or a related field • Advanced degree is a plus • Roughly 3–5+ years trading power, including real-time experience in FTR or CRR markets • Track record of successful FTR strategies and direct book management experience • Solid understanding of PJM structure and settlement • Deep knowledge of FTR instruments, including options and obligations • Strong congestion analysis skills and understanding of PJM constraints • Proficiency with FTR Center and other PJM market interfaces • Hands-on experience with power-flow tools • Data analysis and financial modeling skills using Excel and a scripting language such as Python or R • Familiarity with production-cost modeling for power markets • Ability to identify signals in messy data and act on them • Sound decision-making under time pressure and uncertainty • Ability to explain strategies and results clearly • Ability to independently manage a book while collaborating with the team • Careful execution and risk management
