📋 Description

• Partner across KOHO Tech and KOHO Bank to provide practical regulatory advice that enables growth while protecting customers. • Support the design and launch of new financial products and features, identifying regulatory risks early and helping teams build compliant solutions. • Play a key role in helping KOHO set up and operationalize a regulated bank, including supporting engagement with regulators such as OSFI, FCAC, and the Bank of Canada. • Support marketing and growth teams by ensuring campaigns are effective and compliant with financial services and consumer protection requirements. • Provide guidance to customer-facing teams on complaints handling, communications, and fairness considerations. • Help build scalable legal and regulatory processes to support KOHO’s long-term growth as a regulated financial institution.

🎯 Requirements

• 6+ years post-call experience as a lawyer practicing in Canada (in-house and/or at a law firm). • Experience advising on financial services regulation, banking law, or consumer protection frameworks. • Strong judgment and the ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice. • Comfortable working cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, CX, Risk, and Compliance teams. • High ownership mindset — takes initiative and focuses on solutions over problems. • Builder mentality with a bias toward action in fast-moving environments. • Curious and quick to learn • Proactive and highly organized • Comfortable operating in high-ambiguity environments • Strong work ethic and reliability • Honest, responsive, and collaborative • Experience working at a bank, fintech, or regulated financial institution (nice to have). • Familiarity with RPAA and the Financial Consumer Protection Framework (FCPF)(nice to have). • Knowledge of AML/ATF and privacy laws (nice to have). • Fluent in French (nice to have).
