📋 Description

• Manage a team of 4–8 engineers and be measured by the success of the team • Occasionally write code and contribute to codebases • Deliver complete features in collaboration with broader Query engineering and product teams • Accurately estimate work and deliver on time with high code and design quality • Train, motivate, and recruit team members; set high performance standards • Provide design and architectural guidance and influence broader Query engineering operations • Travel up to three weeks per year for team meetings and events • Short-term success: understand development and release processes, team strengths, and contribute significantly to codebases • Mid-term success: customize team ceremonies, provide design guidance, identify mentorship needs, and deliver significant new features • Long-term success: execute complex projects with multiple stakeholders, develop team skills, and influence the Query engineering team

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of professional experience • Demonstrated success as a people manager or tech lead • Strong communication skills • A passion for mentoring and teaching • High emotional intelligence and a commitment to building inclusive teams • Experience in data management systems • Hand-on coding skills in C++ or another backend/systems language • Experience with building production-level code with a large user base, robust design, and rigorous code quality • Passion for the theory and practice of database query engines • Degree in Computer Science or similar field, or equivalent practical experience, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design/architecture
