📋 Description

• Recruit, mentor, and grow a founding team of engineers building the orchestration platform • Partner with the Lead Engineer and senior technical stakeholders on architecture, scope, and milestones • Drive initiatives from concept to delivery and translate product goals into technical plans • Lead development of a scalable, event-driven, fault-tolerant platform for high-volume, real-time messaging decisions • Provide hands-on technical leadership for distributed, stateful, and real-time decisioning problems • Collaborate with Product, Machine Learning, Data Platform, and adjacent engineering teams • Ensure reliability through observability, metrics, incident response, and shared on-call responsibilities • Report to the Director of Engineering (AI/ML)

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience • 3+ years managing engineers • Track record of recruiting, mentoring, and growing high-trust engineering teams • Player-coach leadership style, with hands-on contribution to architecture, design, and implementation • Deep experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems that are fault tolerant, highly available, and highly concurrent • Strong systems thinking and architectural judgment for event-driven, stateful, real-time decisioning systems • Experience building and operating backend services in a modern cloud environment, specifically Google Cloud Platform • Hands-on experience with microservice and service-oriented architectures • Experience with synchronous, event-sourced, orchestrated, and asynchronous inter-service communication patterns • Experience with gRPC and Kafka • Strong foundation in Python • Practical experience with partitioning, replication, back-pressure, idempotency, and failure handling • Exemplary software engineering practices, including system design, code review, testing, and CI/CD • Strong focus on operational excellence, observability, incident response, and healthy on-call practices • Clear communication and collaboration with product and business stakeholders • Experience with Elixir, Erlang, Scala/Akka, Go, or Clojure is a plus • Experience with workflow orchestration systems such as Prefect, Airflow, Dagster, or Temporal is nice to have • Experience building, operating, or integrating with ML-driven decisioning or scoring systems is nice to have
