📋 Description

• Lead the strategy and execution of integrated marketing and communications campaigns • Grow the Pacific Institute’s audiences and strengthen its reputation as a definitive voice on global water solutions • Build visibility and positioning that drive partnership and funding growth • Lead a team spanning content, digital, media relations, and partner communications • Develop audience definitions, positioning, campaign calendars, and outcome-measured campaigns • Steward the Pacific Institute parent brand and associated sub-brands, including CEO Water Mandate and Water Resilience Coalition • Lead content and audience strategy across digital marketing infrastructure • Build analytics and reporting capabilities for marketing and communications activity • Partner with growth, research, and programs leaders on revenue-supporting campaigns and integrated communications • Build executive visibility and thought leadership programs, including media relations, speaking opportunities, and rapid-response commentary • Represent the Pacific Institute externally on brand, marketing, and organizational positioning matters • Design and maintain communications processes, workflows, quality standards, and decision-making norms • Set priorities, manage intake, sequence work, and resolve cross-functional bottlenecks • Lead organizational media strategy and establish spokesperson strategy and protocols • Advise executive leadership on strategic and external positioning implications • Foster team collaboration, creative excellence, psychological safety, and continuous learning • Build a scalable team structure and manage team budget, workforce planning, contractors, vendors, and resourcing • Establish strategic redundancy and shared institutional knowledge • Ensure quality, consistency, and timeliness of external communications • Translate complex research, programs, and partnerships into audience-appropriate messaging • Establish publication processes, timelines, and quality checkpoints • Write, edit, and produce communications and campaign materials directly

🎯 Requirements

• At least 14 years of progressive experience in marketing, strategic communications, media relations, or public affairs • At least 7 years in a leadership role managing and developing a communications team • At least 5 years in a marketing leadership role independently responsible for a large brand • Experience building or significantly evolving communications systems, processes, and team structures • Track record translating complex technical or research-based content into compelling narratives for diverse audiences • Experience owning departmental budgets, workforce planning, vendor portfolios, and resourcing strategy • National or international media strategy experience, including earned media, spokesperson preparation, and crisis communications • Experience advising executive leadership or serving in an executive-level communications advisory capacity • Working knowledge of AI tools for strategic advantage in communications and marketing, with ethical-use judgment • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Public Policy, or a related field • Equivalent professional experience will be considered • Outstanding writing and editing skills • Ability to synthesize complex information for diverse audiences and formats • Strategic planning and hands-on execution ability • Ability to set priorities, manage competing demands, make transparent decisions, and advocate at executive level • Deep understanding of digital communications, social media strategy, website management, email marketing, content management systems, and analytics platforms • Experience with brand management, visual identity, organizational positioning, and marketing infrastructure development • Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative, inclusive leadership approach • Ability to operate in a remote-first environment with a globally distributed team • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion • Preferred: nonprofit, philanthropic, or mission-driven sector experience • Preferred: familiarity with water, climate, environmental sustainability, or natural resource policy • Preferred: experience communicating with vulnerable communities, elected officials, corporations, community leaders, and the public • Preferred: impact-data storytelling and cross-functional brand storytelling • Preferred: communications management during organizational growth, transition, or structural change • Preferred: fluency in other languages • Preferred: international organizations, multilateral institutions, or global sustainability networks experience • Must reside within the United States • No immigration or relocation assistance is available
