📋 Description

• Identify, scope, and manage complex advocacy projects to advance AI for Democracy Action Lab's goals • Lead development of innovative legal arguments and litigation approaches at intersection of AI and democracy • Research, draft, and edit pleadings, motions, briefs, and legal filings in impact litigation • Communicate with opposing counsel and manage relationships with clients and government stakeholders • Manage discovery processes including document review and witness interviews • Supervise and mentor junior legal staff and law students • Write, publish, and present on legal issues in AI and democracy • Brief reporters and provide expert commentary on legal questions and developments in AI law • Engage with policymakers and civil society as a legal voice for pro-democracy AI governance

🎯 Requirements

• At least 10 years of legal experience (which can include judicial clerkships) • Expertise in AI and emerging technology law • Exceptional legal and analytical skills • Entrepreneurial legal instincts • Ability to translate complex technical and legal questions for diverse audiences • Bar membership in good standing in the jurisdiction of your residence • Experience developing and leading impact litigation or plaintiff-side civil litigation • Entrepreneurial legal instincts for generating impactful, creative ideas • Exceptional analytical, writing, and presentation skills directed at both legal and non-legal audiences • Ability to translate complex questions for policymakers, journalists, and the public • Growth mindset and enthusiasm for giving and receiving feedback • Collaborative orientation to advance mission • Rigorous attention to detail and high standards for excellence in execution • A passionate commitment to preserving democratic norms and institutions
