• Perform and coordinate the design of electrical substations (12 kV to 500 kV), including layouts and station service systems, with limited supervision • Lead the preparation and review of one-line and phasing diagrams, substation layouts, sections, equipment arrangements, grounding/grid layouts and details, and conduit and cable routing plans • Perform and independently check engineering calculations, studies, and analyses, including grounding studies, lightning protection, switchyard illumination, and rigid and flexible bus studies • Take ownership of assigned design packages and ensure quality, completeness, and alignment with project requirements • Prepare and review design criteria, technical specifications, reports, and drawing lists • Review vendor drawings and technical submissions for compliance with project specifications and design intent • Provide engineering support during construction, including responding to RFIs, issuing technical clarifications, and participating in field reviews • Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and constructability assessments • Collaborate with civil/structural, protection & control, and telecom teams to ensure integrated designs • Manage assigned tasks within scope, schedule, and budget constraints • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior EITs and designers • Maintain project documentation and contribute to quality assurance and continuous improvement • Integrate applicable safety standards, codes, and best practices into designs
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university • Registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or eligible for / working toward P.Eng. designation with EGBC • 2–5 years of relevant experience in transmission & distribution or substation design • Demonstrated experience in substation design, including layouts, grounding, and bus design; BC Hydro or utility project experience is an asset • Familiarity with applicable industry codes and standards (Canadian Electrical Code, IEEE, IEC, CSA, OH&S) • Working knowledge of engineering tools such as AutoCAD, CYMCAP, CDEGS, WINIGS, ETAP, or similar; experience applying these tools in project settings • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to develop practical, technically sound solutions • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with internal teams, clients, and vendors • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
