📋 Description

• Set the engineering standard for design review and code review across the Data organization • Raise standards for testing, observability, and operational readiness • Turn repeated solutions into reusable, documented primitives • Pair with, mentor, and hand off ownership to emerging technical leaders • Design and build interfaces between application services and ML and data systems • Write reference implementations • Author technical RFCs for data, API, and application architecture • Run architecture and design reviews • Set performance, security, and reliability standards for application services calling data and ML systems • Ensure analytical and data engineering work becomes secure, high-quality, maintainable, and performant production systems • Work directly with data scientists and data engineers to remove workflow friction • Ensure data products deliver customer and business impact • Balance speed to market against architecture and explain tradeoffs • Advise on ML development workflows from experimentation through training, tracking, registration, validation, deployment, monitoring, and retraining • Build and evaluate agentic workflows against real traffic • Harden valuable agentic workflows and discontinue those that do not deliver value

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with deep ownership of large-scale production systems • Track record as a principal-level individual contributor • Experience setting technical direction across teams, writing RFCs, running design reviews, and delivering multi-quarter roadmaps without direct authority • Depth in distributed, data-intensive production systems • Experience making design decisions driven by latency, throughput, availability, and cost • Experience operating distributed production systems • Deep Kubernetes expertise • Experience building and deploying containerized production services • Ability to navigate autoscaling, resource constraints, and resilience patterns • Ability to define deployment standards for ML workloads • Strong working experience alongside data scientists and data engineers • Experience taking analytical or prototype work and making it production grade • Proven adoption and mentorship • Experience building agentic workflows • Bonus: understanding of effective ML development workflows • Bonus: experience building agentic AI solutions for customers, including evaluation harnesses, guardrails, and observability • Bonus: hands-on Databricks experience, specifically with ML tooling • Bonus: experience with feature store patterns and online-offline consistency
