• Lead research projects using quantitative and qualitative research methodologies • Lead new business by identifying opportunities, developing pitches and proposals, and finalizing stakeholder engagement strategies • Lead execution and finalization of project deliverables • Manage and provide leadership to direct reports, including research associates • Conceptualize new research ideas, methodologies and strategies to maximize research impact • Provide subject matter expertise during client engagement and business development activities • Lead content development, stakeholder relations, speaker identification, sponsorship outreach and event delivery for sustainability-related roundtables and convenings • Support membership growth and retention strategies for the Strategic Resilience and Emergency Management Council • Demonstrate collaboration, ownership, excellence, evidence, passion and integrity in work and client interactions
• PhD or Masters’ degree in disaster science, actuarial science, geoinformatics, emergency management, climate adaptation or related areas • Deep knowledge of disaster insurance models, reinsurance, disaster financial instruments, and emerging innovations in disaster finance • Understanding of social, institutional, and infrastructure capacity interdependencies in disaster resilience • Understanding of pragmatic and place-based disaster resilience and climate adaptation measures at community and household levels • Competency analyzing environmental, economic, and social policies and their impact on disaster resilience and climate adaptation in Canada • Advanced MS Excel capabilities for analyzing and visually communicating trends in large datasets • Advanced writing skills • Advanced presentation and communication skills • Leadership in project management • Success handling multiple responsibilities, deadlines and deliverables • Ability to travel within Canada for client and team meetings when needed • Productive, professional and safe home office with internet service and reliable connection • Climate hazard modelling competency is an asset • Disaster governance and regulatory frameworks competency is an asset • GIS tools such as QGIS competency is an asset • Qualitative and textual analysis tools such as NVivo competency is an asset • Experience organizing and chairing convenings is an asset • Bilingualism is an asset
