• Ensure food safety and quality systems are scientifically defensible and compliant with USDA regulations, policies, directives, and facility notices • Audit written policies, policy enforcement and implementation, product environments, and regulatory reports • Author, review, and update food safety and quality policies for USDA, FDA, customer contract, Safe Quality Foods 2000 system level 3, and corporate requirements • Train Food Safety and Quality Assurance staff and plant employees • Support facilities during customer audits and regulatory assessments • Provide expertise on smokehouse calibration and operations, sanitary equipment design, microbiological harborage identification, quality plans, and product regulatory requirements • Research emerging industry issues through online resources, scientific publications, and workshops • Identify and implement cost-effective, scientifically supportable solutions • Analyze, interpret, and evaluate in-process analytics data using scientific principles • Author and develop cost-effective system improvements • Perform continuous data analysis to identify trends and troubleshoot problematic systems or departments • Collaborate with Operations Divisional Vice Presidents to adopt cost-effective technologies • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and plant- and company-wide objectives • Lead employee development and coaching to support a positive employee experience
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 5+ years of relevant food-industry experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience • 2+ years of demonstrated team management/development or project leadership experience • Proficiency in food manufacturing processes, quality assurance principles, food science, meat processing, SPC, and statistics • Experience using continuous improvement tools and fundamentals to drive results • Relevant experience with government regulatory requirements in food processing, including USDA and FDA, required • Ability to document expertise in design and execution of quality/technical work • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, inventory software, manufacturing software, and SAP • Strong leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, writing, interpersonal, communication, planning, organizational, multitasking, and project management skills • Must be able to travel up to 70% of the time • Must be able to complete required applicable forms in English, including reading and writing in English • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and build strong working relationships • Previous multi-site responsibility and perishable experience a plus • At least 4 years in a USDA-regulated manufacturing management capacity preferred • Ability to work alternate shifts and some weekends • Ability to deliver information to diverse audiences • Fundamental mathematical skills for managing KPIs • Ability to work in wet, humid, hot, cold, noisy, chemical, and mechanically active plant environments; hearing protection required • Occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds • Frequently stand, walk, use stairs, climb ladders, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear
