📋 Description

• Own the strategy and standards of excellence for Temporal's compute layer across design, delivery, and operations • Build a culture of ownership, quality, and customer-first decision-making • Lead, hire, and grow a high-ownership engineering team • Stay close to design documents and code while guiding technical execution • Coach engineers, develop their skills, and remove delivery friction • Drive the roadmap from current compute toward next-generation compute platforms • Use customer and design-partner feedback to prioritize work and create predictable iterative delivery • Own operations, on-call, and incident response • Lead blameless postmortems and systemic reliability improvements • Guide architecture for large-scale, multi-tenant compute, workload isolation, security, scheduling, fleet efficiency, utilization, goodput, and performance • Own utilization, capacity and supply planning, cost per unit of compute, and fleet margin across CPU and future accelerated compute • Partner with Engineering, Product, SDK, UX/DX, Security, leadership, and design-partner customers • Communicate progress, tradeoffs, and risks to technical and non-technical audiences

🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience leading software engineering teams that build and operate large-scale compute platforms or fleets • 15+ years in software and/or infrastructure engineering • 10+ years of people management • Demonstrated ownership of delivery and live-site outcomes • Deep distributed-systems and compute infrastructure expertise • Experience operating multi-tenant compute supporting production workloads • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience • Excellent communication skills • Strong leadership, coaching, and performance management • Planning, prioritization, and iterative delivery in ambiguous, fast-moving environments • Fleet thinking involving utilization, goodput, capacity and supply planning, and cost discipline • Live-site reliability experience including on-call, incident management, response, and postmortems • Knowledge of multi-tenant isolation and security, scheduling, and resource management • Ability to review design documents and code across a distributed-systems codebase • Nice to have: MicroVMs, virtualization, managed-compute primitives, Kubernetes internals, serverless or hosted-compute products, AWS and GCP, cold-start/warm-pool/scheduling optimization, agent sandboxes, secure execution of untrusted code, GPU and accelerated compute • Must be legally authorized to work in the intended location
