• Plan and support cultural resources projects throughout New Mexico • Conduct pre-field literature reviews and background and archival research • Plan and coordinate fieldwork • Conduct Class III intensive pedestrian cultural resources inventories • Document archaeological sites and IOs/IFs and conduct NRHP eligibility evaluations • Assess and manage field data collected by others • Prepare and revise deliverables • Conduct archaeological monitoring during construction activities • Complete daily monitoring and/or inspection forms and draft monitoring reports • Coordinate with state and federal agencies • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings • Support and participate in the company’s safety and employee ownership culture • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures • Travel outside the normal work location as required
• Qualified candidates must be listed on the NM SHPO Directory at the Supervisory Archaeologist/Crew Chief level • Master's degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related field • Completion of a field school • Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience • Proficiency in prehistoric and/or historic archaeology statewide in New Mexico • Proficiency in documenting archaeological sites and isolates statewide in New Mexico • Ability to use hand-held field technology, including ArcGIS phone/tablet applications paired with sub-meter GPS receivers • Ability to survey an average of 50 acres/8 miles per day, excluding resource documentation • Ability to carry personal health and safety equipment • Ability to work in moderate weather conditions, including fluctuating temperatures, rain, and snow • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a team setting • Ability to follow instructions and adjust based on feedback • Organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, dependable, and trustworthy • Excellent GPS and compass navigation skills • Ability to navigate and drive 4WD vehicles • Ability to read, write, and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and communicate with employees and vendors • Proficiency with ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123 applications preferred • Previous NHPA, NEPA, FERC, and/or other cultural or environmental training preferred • Strong writing and editing skills preferred • Strong communication and organization skills preferred • Authored multiple archaeological site forms and inventory reports preferred • Prior experience supporting state and federal agencies preferred
