📋 Description

• Overall editorial responsibility for the Federal Consumer Bulletin and its daily edition • Serving as the responsible person under Section 18 (2) of the German State Media Treaty (MStV), with your name listed in the legal notice • Building, leading, and developing a volunteer editorial team comprising section editors and contributing writers • Planning coverage across all ten sections and determining lead stories and editorial priorities • Ensuring quality through verified and substantiated facts, no unverified republication of third-party reports, a clear distinction between news and opinion, and prompt corrections • Introducing and enforcing binding editorial independence guidelines • Establishing transparent rules for decision-making, conflicts of interest, and handling external information and tips • Supporting membership in press industry and professional associations and voluntary commitment to the German Press Council’s Press Code • Updating editorial principles, including rules for AI-assisted content and image rights • Deciding on rights of reply, notices, and complaints; coordinating with the Executive Board in legally sensitive cases • Developing the newsletter and expanding its reach together with the Head of Communications

🎯 Requirements

• Several years of journalistic experience, gained through a traineeship, editorial work, or freelance assignments • Sound knowledge of press and media law, particularly duties of care, personality rights, and rights of reply • Experience leading or coordinating teams, including distributed and remote teams • Meeting the statutory requirements under Section 18 (2) of the German State Media Treaty (MStV): permanent residence in Germany, full legal capacity, unrestricted criminal liability under German law, and eligibility to hold public office • Independence: no financial ties to companies covered by the publication • A clear commitment to editorial independence and journalistic diligence, including in dealings with the publisher • Proficiency with digital editorial systems and openness to AI-assisted workflows • A formal degree is not required; practical experience is what matters
