📋 Description

• Design the full end-to-end multi-tenant IoT platform architecture, from device connectivity and MQTT/protocol ingestion through stream processing, time-series storage, APIs, and real-time WebSocket delivery • Define strict tenant data isolation, tenant-scoped API tokens, and row-level security • Design device lifecycle systems covering provisioning, X.509/JWT authentication, device registry, status tracking, and decommissioning • Architect protocol abstraction for MQTT, Modbus, OPC-UA, CoAP, and HTTP devices • Design a configurable event-condition-action rule engine for alerts, automations, and integrations • Plan secure OTA firmware updates, versioning, rollback, and fleet orchestration • Write Architecture Decision Records for major technical choices • Design scaling from 100 pilot devices to 500,000+ production devices • Build platform services for device management, telemetry ingestion, rules, notifications, OTA updates, and the multi-tenant API gateway • Develop version-controlled REST and GraphQL APIs with full OpenAPI specifications • Implement WebSocket and SSE endpoints for real-time telemetry delivery • Build device command-and-control with acknowledgements, retries, and timeout handling • Implement a device shadow service for last-known device state during offline periods • Write unit, integration, and load tests before services reach staging • Define SLOs, create alerting runbooks, and handle on-call incidents • Provision and manage AWS dev, staging, and production environments with Terraform • Configure AWS IoT Core, including MQTT endpoints, topic namespaces, rules, and certificate management • Set up GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines for backend services • Configure CloudWatch monitoring, log aggregation, and automated health alerts • Manage least-privilege IAM access without shared credentials • Fully document and hand off infrastructure when a DevOps engineer joins Phase 2

🎯 Requirements

• 7–12 years software or systems engineering; minimum 4 years specifically building IoT platform backends or connected product infrastructure • Expert-level, hands-on experience with AWS IoT Core or Azure IoT Hub in production deployments • Expert MQTT knowledge: v3.1 and v5.0, topic hierarchy design, QoS levels, retained messages, Last Will & Testament, broker sizing and clustering • Proficiency in Python and Node.js/TypeScript for production backend services; Go is a strong advantage • Hands-on experience with InfluxDB, TimescaleDB, or AWS Timestream • Terraform or AWS CloudFormation • Multi-tenant SaaS backend architecture, including data isolation, tenant-scoped access control, and shared infrastructure design • Practical security experience with TLS/mTLS, X.509 certificates, OAuth 2.0, JWT, and Vault or AWS Secrets Manager • Message broker or streaming experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS Kinesis, or AWS IoT Rules Engine • Ability to work autonomously at a senior level and document decisions and risks • Industrial protocol knowledge: Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC-UA, or BACnet is nice to have • EMQX, HiveMQ, or VerneMQ broker deployment and production operation is nice to have • Edge computing runtimes such as AWS Greengrass v2, Azure IoT Edge, or Balena is nice to have • Digital twin frameworks such as AWS IoT TwinMaker or Azure Digital Twins is nice to have • Container orchestration with Kubernetes, ECS, or equivalent is nice to have • Open-source IoT contributions or published technical writing is nice to have
