📋 Description

• Design, implement, administer, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server environments • Support Oracle environments as needed • Establish standards for schema design, indexing, query optimization, database governance, and operational excellence • Analyze execution plans, tune queries, optimize indexing strategies, and resolve database performance bottlenecks • Apply partitioning, replication, and caching to improve performance and data access • Design and maintain high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions using Microsoft Clustering, Always On Availability Groups, and Oracle Data Guard • Lead capacity planning, backup and recovery strategies, and automated failover and recovery testing • Integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines with automated schema migrations and rollback processes • Use Terraform or similar IaC tools and PowerShell, Python, or Bash to automate provisioning, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and alerting • Support observability using Redgate, New Relic, and PagerDuty • Implement role-based access control, encryption, auditing, and database security practices supporting SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, and HIPAA requirements • Partner with security teams on vulnerability mitigation • Participate in a rotational on-call schedule • Conduct root-cause analysis to prevent recurring database incidents • Contribute to architecture and design reviews and shape database standards and modernization initiatives

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years of relevant experience managing enterprise database platforms • Deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server administration • Experience supporting Oracle environments is an asset • Expertise in database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and execution-plan analysis • Hands-on experience in replication, clustering, and high-availability configurations • Experience designing and maintaining backup, disaster recovery, and failover strategies for business-critical database environments • Proficiency with T-SQL and SQL scripting • PL/SQL experience is valuable • Hands-on automation experience with PowerShell, Python, or Bash • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience • Structured, analytical, and problem-solving mindset • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively across engineering, cloud operations, platform, and security teams • Ability to balance immediate operational needs with long-term reliability, scalability, and maintainability • Willingness to participate in a rotational on-call schedule
