📋 Description

• Own and evolve the back-end service storing user progress, guides, and survey data • Lead large cross-team strategic initiatives • Clarify ambiguous product requirements with product managers and designers • Write design documents covering recommended approaches and trade-offs • Review designs with the team and partner teams including mobile, web capture, data management, and infrastructure • Break approved designs into Jira delivery plans • Coordinate timelines with the product manager • Deliver end to end across infrastructure, back-end services, the JavaScript guides snippet, and the React-based editor • Define test plans and acceptance scenarios • Participate in an on-call rotation • Triage questions and issues from other teams and Customer Support • Debug across client and server • Occasionally join customer calls to troubleshoot • Mentor engineers and improve code review and engineering workflows in GitHub • Run proofs of concept for new technology • Partner with other staff engineers on company-wide initiatives, including hackathons and Builders' Fridays • Use AI tools for design, coding, code review, debugging, and test planning while verifying their output • Help shape AI-driven customer features such as content generation and Model Context Protocol servers

🎯 Requirements

• Designed, built, and operated complex back-end systems in production from architecture through delivery • Strong back-end engineering and end-to-end complex systems design skills • Experience ideally in PHP or Go; Java and other back-end languages also welcome • Ability to move comfortably between programming languages • Experience writing technical design documents and leading architecture decisions • Experience mentoring other engineers • Front-end experience with JavaScript, ideally React • English fluency in speaking, reading, and writing for daily collaboration with US-based teams • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field • Legally authorized to work in Colombia • Nice to have: experience migrating a legacy service to a new stack, building in-app guidance or survey products, or working on real-time, client-side experiences
