📋 Description

• Review code written by other engineers at the start of the day and verify it meets quality standards • Implement clean, extensible control systems for console platforms • Investigate performance on target platforms and modify the game or engine to improve it • Test updated code on target platforms for correctness and performance • Estimate tasks and complete them on schedule • Write clear, maintainable code that passes review by senior engineers • Report issues to the project lead • Test and document solutions for other developers to review and learn from • Implement and maintain software engineering best practices throughout the software development lifecycle • Take responsibility for broad areas of the codebase and large, complex features • Own mission-critical areas of the codebase • Coordinate with members outside the engineering team to deliver features on time • Assess the feasibility of large features and propose solutions • Provide programming expertise for large-feature and architecture proposals • Analyze code reviews to anticipate design and implementation problems • Work on exciting projects for next-generation consoles within Wizcorp, a Tokyo-based specialized game development studio

🎯 Requirements

• Several years of professional experience with Unreal Engine • Experience releasing console games • Proficiency in C++ and Unreal Engine • Willingness to work deeply with and improve the engine itself • Ability to design, test, and debug own code independently • Ability to decompose large features into engineering tasks and complete them collaboratively • Ability to mentor engineers on software development best practices • Interest in working on both the game itself and its tools • Ability to communicate confidently with all internal members • Ability to write clean, readable, high-performance code and design architecture based on it • Strong debugging and optimization skills • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Software development skills, design theory, and development processes • Personal time-management skills • End-to-end software development knowledge • Experience with Unreal Online Subsystem and/or Unreal Engine internal systems and customization • Experience developing for PlayStation and/or Microsoft platforms; familiarity with Nintendo, PC, or mobile platforms • University degree in engineering, computer science, or related field, or equivalent practical experience • Candidates residing in Japan: 3+ years of software engineering experience, 2+ years of professional Unreal Engine 4 experience, and 2+ years of console game development experience including test and development kits • Candidates residing overseas: 7+ years of software engineering experience, 6+ years of professional Unreal Engine 4 experience, and 6+ years of console game development experience including test and development kits • Strong software engineering ability and knowledge of coding patterns • Extensive debugging experience with C++ and Unreal Engine • Familiarity with source code management systems such as Git, SVN, or Perforce • Japanese proficiency at conversational level or higher (JLPT N3 or above) • English proficiency sufficient to read, write, and discuss technical matters • Preferred: experience with C#, Ruby, Python, shell scripting, Unreal Engine build pipelines, Unity or proprietary engines, and at least one released game title
