📋 Description

• Work on game engine programming for exciting projects targeting next-generation consoles • Review code from other engineers and ensure it meets quality expectations • Develop systems and related utilities for custom proprietary engines • Integrate rendering engines into existing codebases • Make architectural changes to accommodate new engine features cleanly and extensibly • Work on save data management, job systems, memory management, and development support features • Design, test, and debug code independently • Break down large features into engineering tasks and coordinate with other engineers • Decipher and understand complex systems • Mentor engineers in engine development best practices • Develop systems with a strong focus on optimization and performance • Estimate tasks and deliver them in a timely manner • Write clear, maintainable code that passes senior-engineer review • Raise blockers to the project lead • Test and document solutions • Implement and uphold software engineering best practices across the full software development life cycle • Take ownership of large and mission-critical areas of the codebase and complex features • Coordinate with non-engineering team members to deliver features • Determine feature feasibility and propose solutions • Provide programming expertise for large features and architecture suggestions • Analyze code reviews to identify potential design and implementation problems

🎯 Requirements

• University degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline; or relevant professional experience • Japan-based candidates: 3+ years of professional software engineering experience and 2+ years of professional experience developing custom engines • Overseas-based candidates: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience and 5+ years of professional experience developing custom engines • A few years of work experience with custom engines • Released games on consoles • Ability to write clean, readable, performant code and design its architecture • Excellent debugging and optimization skills • Excellent written and verbal communication • Knowledge of existing optimization techniques • Strong focus on performance and performance analysis • Strong math skills • Strong software development skills, design theory, and development processes • Strong personal time management • Experience with rendering engines, animation-specific tools, PlayStation platforms, or Microsoft platforms • Solid software engineering abilities and familiarity with coding patterns • Strong experience with C++ and proficiency in C# (WPF) • Comfortable with source code management systems such as Git, SVN, or Perforce • At least conversational Japanese proficiency (JLPT N3 or above) • English proficiency sufficient to read, write, and discuss technical matters • Willingness to work as part of a team and contribute to technical discussions • Eager to provide and receive constructive feedback • Must reside in Japan during employment • Preferred: Ruby, Python, shell scripting, other game engines, 3+ years in the video game industry, and at least one released game
