📋 Description

• Build sandboxed, stateful environments wrapping real Niural payroll, contractor onboarding, invoice reconciliation, and compliance workflows • Make environments seeded and replayable, with difficulty controls and curriculum structures • Generate synthetic data for environments because real customer payroll data cannot leave Niural systems • Design programmatic verifiers from known ground truth and minimize model-as-judge usage • Score trajectories and defend against reward hacking and contamination • Run reinforcement learning loops, curriculum schedules, fine-tuning, and distillation where appropriate • Establish baselines, run ablations, and measure whether improvements generalize • Publish and document measured negative results internally • Prototype agent architectures, memory strategies, tool-use patterns, and scaffolds in one- to two-week spikes • Hand successful prototypes to production-agent teams and remain involved through deployment • Write first-author research papers for Niural AI with reproducible methodology and honest limitations • Produce internal technical reports and represent the work through preprints, talks, and potentially open-sourced environments • Work inside the product team alongside the AI Product Manager and production-agent engineers • Deliver experiments that influence shipped products and customer-facing systems

🎯 Requirements

• A published, peer reviewed paper at a conference or in a journal; this is a firm requirement • Foundational knowledge of AI and machine learning • Strong Python, including numpy and the scientific stack • Ability to write code other people can build on • Ability to build and run services, including APIs, databases, queues, Docker, deployment, logging, and debugging • Practical experience with agent systems, harnesses, tool use, and multi-step workflows that run unattended • Reinforcement learning literacy; ability to read a policy optimization paper and implement it • Opinions and knowledge about reward design • Reproducibility as a habit; others can clone the repository, follow the README, and reproduce results • Evidence of impactful work, such as a used product, cited or extended result, open-source project with real users, or system that changed a company decision • Able and willing to work a permanent night shift on US hours • Hands-on work with gym-style environments or RL training frameworks • Evaluation tooling, harness engineering, or benchmark construction • Synthetic data generation, fine-tuning, or distillation experience • Docker, sandboxing, and distributed training infrastructure • Open-source contributions that other people depend on • Fintech, payroll, HR tech, or compliance exposure • Writing outside of papers, such as a blog, documentation, or teaching
