📋 Description

• Design and build Home Assistant’s AI foundation, including conversation APIs, LLM integrations, and typed tool layers. • Create in-product agents that help users build and manage their homes while keeping users in control. • Connect Home Assistant to the agentic world through open standards such as MCP. • Grow Assist into a context-aware home management assistant with cross-session memory, documentation, configuration, and troubleshooting capabilities. • Make AI features discoverable, easy to set up, optional, and easy to disable. • Build AI-powered workflows for issue triage, review assistance, and contributor tooling. • Conduct code reviews of teammate and community pull requests. • Collaborate with the community to investigate and address reported issues. • Provide input on architectural proposals and codebase changes. • Work closely with the open-source community to review contributions and integrate them into Home Assistant.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Python back-end development. • 3+ years of experience with asyncio and threading. • Built and shipped LLM-powered features in production Python, including tool calling, agent loops, streaming, evaluation, and handling model failures. • Experience building with the Model Context Protocol, including MCP servers or clients, or comparable agent tool-calling interfaces. • Experience with local, on-device inference, such as Ollama or llama.cpp. • Practical understanding of language-model strengths and limitations and how to design reliable, private, and safe systems. • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail. • Ability to work independently. • Strong experience working effectively in a remote, asynchronous environment. • Experience with Git and GitHub. • Professional fluency in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Must be currently based and eligible to work within Europe.
