📋 Description

• Review and proofread assigned news articles, columns, features, and opinion pieces for spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, clarity, and consistency • Enforce Barbados TODAY’s tone, style, house style, brand guidelines, and publication-specific style guides • Verify names, titles, dates, figures, places, references, visuals, data, units, scales, and numbers against trusted sources • Flag inconsistencies, misattributions, missing credits, and unresolved queries • Identify and escalate potential defamation, contempt, privacy, and bias risks to the assigning editor or legal representative • Review designed pages and ensure copy, captions, display text, and formatting are correct before release • Optimise content for digital reading using tightened headlines, subheads, bullets, callouts, and SEO best practices • Check graphics, captions, credits, source lines, image attribution, alignment, fonts, spacing, missing sections, duplicated content, and broken formatting • Ensure headlines, subheadings, social captions, and photo captions align with corresponding articles • Provide feedback and corrections to writers and editors and submit marked-up reviewed content • Meet deadlines and production schedules • Communicate queries and inconsistencies promptly to relevant editors • Track, record, and report recurring editorial or stylistic errors monthly • Maintain respectful communication across editorial, design, writing, and digital teams • Participate in editorial meetings or training sessions where required

🎯 Requirements

• Experience proofreading news articles, columns, features, opinion pieces, and other editorial content • Knowledge of and adherence to approved style guides, house style, brand guidelines, and publication-specific style guides • Ability to verify names, titles, dates, figures, places, references, visuals, data, units, scales, and numbers against trusted source material • Ability to identify and escalate defamation, contempt, privacy, and bias risks • Knowledge of SEO best practices for headlines and metadata • Ability to quality-check designed pages, copy, captions, display text, formatting, alignment, fonts, spacing, sections, and duplicated content • Ability to provide timely feedback and marked-up corrections to writers and editors • Ability to meet deadlines and production schedules while maintaining editorial quality • Ability to communicate effectively with editors, writers, designers, and the digital team • Willingness to participate in editorial meetings or training sessions where required
