📋 Description

• Provide technical direction across two engineering teams and connected domains • Design scalable distributed solutions across frontend and backend • Facilitate architectural decisions and make data-driven trade-offs around performance, security, reliability, maintainability and cost • Identify risks extending beyond an individual team • Remain hands-on across frontend and backend using React and Java • Shape customer-facing experiences and scalable backend capabilities • Influence solutions from discovery and system design through implementation and production • Help establish foundations for future native iOS and Android checkout experiences • Drive adoption of architecture, performance, security, testing, observability and reliability practices • Turn recurring technical challenges into reusable patterns, guidelines and platform capabilities • Create alignment between Checkout, Payments, Orders, Shipping and dependent teams • Mentor engineers and facilitate architecture and design discussions • Partner with Product, UX and engineering leadership to identify opportunities and translate business needs into technical strategy • Use data, metrics and industry trends to evaluate trade-offs and prioritize high-impact investments

🎯 Requirements

• Deep, hands-on full-stack engineering expertise with React and Java • Production ownership across customer-facing frontend applications and backend services • Ability to reason across architecture, performance, security, reliability and maintainability • Staff/Principal-level experience or equivalent technical scope • Experience designing complex distributed systems • Experience driving architectural decisions affecting multiple teams or domains • Strong record of leading through influence and growing other engineers • Ability to mentor experienced engineers and facilitate architecture and design discussions • Ability to introduce engineering standards and enable high-quality technical decisions • Strong business and product judgement • Effective collaboration with Product, UX, Security, SRE and engineering stakeholders • Ability to use metrics and evidence to guide decisions • Experience with checkout, payments, orders, e-commerce or marketplace systems is a strong plus • Exposure to native Android/Kotlin or iOS/Swift development is valuable
