📋 Description

• Assess the current system, including codebase, data model, infrastructure, and dependencies, and produce a prioritized written architecture assessment • Define the target architecture, including service boundaries, data flow, integration points, and migration path • Make and document technology decisions with explicit tradeoffs and reversibility considerations • Establish engineering standards for code review, testing, branching, releases, and definition of done • Write production code on critical-path and high-risk areas • Review team work and maintain quality standards • Own the deployment pipeline and release process during the engagement • Lead contract and/or in-house engineers, including assigning, sequencing, and tracking work • Run team operating rhythms such as standups, planning, and retrospectives • Mentor engineers and improve the team's ability to maintain the system • Own delivery plans, estimates, sequencing, dependencies, and critical path • Report weekly status to leadership, including shipped work, delays, risks, and decisions needed • Raise scope, timeline, and resourcing risks early with options • Translate technical constraints and business tradeoffs for non-technical stakeholders • Deliver architecture documents, delivery plans, architecture decision records, production-deployed software, engineering standards, weekly status reports, and a handoff package with documentation and operational guidance • Report to the project lead as the single technical point of accountability

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of development and project management experience • Experience owning delivery timelines and delivering projects against dates • Experience leading engineers day to day, including assigning work, reviewing work, unblocking people, and addressing performance or schedule issues • Production experience building and maintaining backend services with Python • Production experience with TypeScript on the frontend and/or in Node services • Fluency in writing, reading, and optimizing SQL queries • Comfort reasoning about schema design and query performance • Experience designing APIs consumed by other teams or customers • Nice to have: domain experience in medical software and/or e-commerce • Nice to have: familiarity with HIPAA, PCI, or other regulatory and privacy constraints • Nice to have: cloud infrastructure experience on AWS, GCP, or Azure, including CI/CD and managed databases • Nice to have: prior contract or consulting work with end-to-end scope ownership and independent delivery
