📋 Description
• Own the architecture of Commercial Pod systems end-to-end, including service boundaries, data models, event flows, and frontend-service contracts • Lead the design document process by writing complex designs, reviewing others, and running design reviews • Represent Commercial in the organization-wide engineering standards program and drive standards adoption • Make, document, and explain architectural trade-offs • Build the highest-risk production implementations across Vue 3 and TypeScript serverless/containerized services • Set engineering quality standards through code and reviews, including strict typing, test coverage, structured logs, correlation IDs, graceful failure handling, and fault tolerance • Own production health through Datadog dashboards, monitors, SLOs, and actionable alerts • Lead incident response and root cause analysis and ensure follow-up work is completed • Participate in the technical lead developer support rota approximately once every five weeks • Mentor engineers in partnership with the Engineering Manager • Partner with the Product Manager to translate commercial priorities into a technical plan • Run and encourage Knowledge Sharing Sessions and maintain trustworthy technical documentation • Interview candidates and assess the pod’s technical bar • Embrace and demonstrate humility, creativity, and independence • Collaborate with peers and internal and external business partners • Learn and share current trends in modern web and back-end frameworks
🎯 Requirements
• 7+ years building and running production systems • At least 2 years as a tech lead, staff engineer, or equivalent technical anchor for a team • Full-stack expertise across frontend and backend systems • Ability to design DynamoDB access patterns and troubleshoot Vue 3 reactivity • Deep AWS experience with serverless and event-driven architecture • Production experience with idempotency keys, dead-letter queues, and backoff strategies • Expert-level TypeScript • Solid Vue 3 expertise or ability to learn it quickly from React or another modern framework • Experience leading architecture for a team and achieving adoption of standards • Track record improving existing codebases through migration, deprecation, and technical-debt reduction • Operational maturity, including on-call ownership, incident leadership, and follow-up completion • Strong API design, REST conventions, versioning, and client-server contracts knowledge • Excellent written communication and experience with design docs and RFCs • Mentorship mindset • Comfortable working in an Agile/Scrum environment with strong adherence to agile development practices • FinTech or Crypto experience strongly preferred • Experience with TypeScript, Node.js, Vue 3 Composition API, Pinia, Vite, Vitest, Storybook, Serverless Framework, AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, Step Functions, EKS, Helm, Istio, Valkey, ElastiCache, S3, API Gateway, Cognito, AWS Bedrock, Datadog, and GitHub Actions • Experience in African markets or multi-currency, multi-regulator environments is an advantage • Kubernetes and EKS depth, including Helm and Istio, would make you stand out • Datadog instrumentation, SLO design, and trace-driven debugging experience would make you stand out • Experience shipping AI-backed production features and using AI tooling would make you stand out • Experience introducing RFC or design-review culture would make you stand out • Experience with design systems and shared component libraries would make you stand out • Clear and accurate written and verbal communication • Ability to collaborate with peers and business partners
