Beschreibung

• Own the target architecture for the Records and Tax platforms, including shared services, data models, and infrastructure • Lead design reviews and establish expectations for design documentation • Drive multi-quarter modernization work, decomposing legacy components, defining service boundaries, and sequencing disruption-free migrations • Make and document build, buy, and refactor decisions • Define and evolve engineering standards for code quality, testing, API design, data modeling, observability, deployment, and technical documentation • Implement standards through tooling, automated checks, templates, and paved paths • Improve code review and technical decision-making through direct participation and coaching senior engineers • Set availability, latency, and durability targets, including SLOs and error budgets • Lead architecture for fault tolerance, graceful degradation, disaster recovery, and data integrity • Plan capacity for seasonal tax filing, recording volume, and reconciliation loads • Own performance engineering, including load testing, profiling, query optimization, and production instrumentation • Lead or advise on major incident response and post-incident reviews • Partner with Security and Compliance on access control, auditability, retention, redaction, and payment-adjacent controls • Mentor senior and staff-track engineers and grow technical depth across both platforms • Translate technical risk for executive audiences • Represent engineering in agency customer conversations when technical credibility is needed

🎯 Anforderungen

• 12+ years building and operating production software, including significant time at staff/principal level or equivalent scope • Demonstrated ownership of architecture for large, multi-team, multi-service systems and evidence those systems held up over time • Deep experience with distributed systems, data modeling, and relational databases at scale, including migrations of live data with no tolerance for loss • Track record of establishing engineering standards that teams adopted • Experience with resiliency and performance, including SLOs, capacity planning, failure-mode analysis, observability, and incident command • Strong experience with cloud infrastructure and modern delivery practices, including IaC, CI/CD, and progressive rollout • Exceptional written communication, including design documents, RFCs, and architectural decision records • Ability to lead through influence without formal authority • Proven effectiveness in a remote, distributed engineering organization • Nice to have: experience in government technology, regtech, fintech, payments, or another regulated domain • Nice to have: experience with tax calculation, billing, or financial reconciliation systems • Nice to have: experience with document management, content-heavy systems, or search at scale • Nice to have: history of incrementally modernizing legacy platforms while keeping them running • Nice to have: familiarity with StateRAMP, FedRAMP, SOC 2, CJIS, or PCI DSS
