📋 Description

• Influence the overall architecture of Alpaca’s market data systems • Design highly scalable, mission-critical systems • Obsess over latency (every nanosecond counts) • Implement backend services and lead architecture where scalability and resilience matters • Maintain good software quality and test coverage • Participate in code reviews • Troubleshooting on incidents and reported bugs • May be asked to be on-call to assist with timely engineering projects • Build and scale systems and services foundational to Alpaca’s brokerage infrastructure • Improve architecture for market data products including stocks, options, crypto, and foreign exchange • Oversee public API structure and documentation for streaming and historical endpoints • Plan, ideate, experiment, and productionize new services and libraries

🎯 Requirements

• At least 4 years of experience working on systems at scale • Experience with at least compiled imperative languages such as Go, C, C++, or Rust; most critical services use Go • SQL or relational database skills • Familiarity with TCP/IP and UDP networking • Proficient with Linux/BSD and shell scripting • Proven track record of architecting and leading medium-scale projects involving multiple teams • Experience with Kubernetes or other workload orchestration and scheduling systems; Alpaca primarily uses Kubernetes via GKE • Experience with major cloud platforms; Alpaca primarily uses GCP • Passion for financial markets • Experience with market data, microservice architectures, clean code principles, cloud networking, low-latency applications, distributed key-value stores, CI/CD, observability, tracing, continuous profiling, capacity planning, or benchmarking are nice-to-haves • Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies is a nice-to-have • DevOps mindset is an asset
