📋 Description

• Lead a cross-functional engineering team spanning frontend, mobile, and backend • Help engineers grow beyond their original specialism and support them in learning unfamiliar parts of the stack • Own a defined area of software architecture, including delivery, quality, and technical direction • Run the development process, including sprint health, delivery cadence, incident response, postmortems, and sustainable on-call rotation • Develop engineers through regular feedback, performance conversations, and stretch assignments • Work with product to scope initiatives, identify risks, and prioritise deliverables • Monitor team capacity and provide clear escalation when constrained • Stay engaged with technical work, identify risks early, and contribute to design discussions • Define and use system metrics to explain performance, detect variance, and drive improvements • Handle performance issues, interpersonal friction, and delivery risks before escalation • Participate in the interview process through intro call, hiring manager interview, role-specific challenge, and values-alignment interview

🎯 Requirements

• Experience managing a team of engineers • Background as a software engineer with hands-on experience building and shipping production systems (hard requirement) • Experience building effective development processes and growing individual contributors • Technical credibility to evaluate design decisions and challenge assumptions • Experience or openness to leading cross-functional teams spanning frontend, mobile, and backend • Operational ownership experience, including on-call culture, incident management, and postmortems • Clear, direct communication with stakeholders and leadership • Ability to operate with meaningful autonomy • Nice to have: direct experience managing full-stack or cross-functional teams • Nice to have: experience in fintech, payments, or a similarly regulated and high-stakes technical domain • Nice to have: familiarity with distributed systems and high-throughput, high-availability infrastructure • Currently only hiring in the UK, South Africa, Romania, Portugal, Poland, Ireland, or Hungary • Applicants must have working rights in the country where they will be based
