📋 Description

• Build, deploy and maintain backend solutions for new website builds, existing website updates, API integrations and server-side development • Develop primarily in Python, Django and Wagtail, contributing to PHP and WordPress websites where needed • Deploy to staging and production environments, following release processes and conducting post-deployment checks • Write clear, efficient code using secure development practices • Perform manual and automated testing and participate in peer code reviews • Investigate bugs, optimise database queries and maintain reliable, responsive and secure websites and applications • Collaborate with Backend Engineers, Frontend Engineers, Designers and Client Success Managers • Contribute to scoping, technical planning, solution reviews and documentation • Join client conversations when technical input is needed • Estimate tasks, communicate progress, flag issues and take ownership of delivery and technical quality • Troubleshoot live website and application issues • Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota for urgent incidents

🎯 Requirements

• Solid, practical experience building and maintaining Python web applications, ideally using Django and/or Wagtail • Experience working with APIs and relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL • Understanding of automated testing, Git and maintainable software design • Awareness of secure development practices, performance optimisation and application reliability • Curiosity, initiative and willingness to learn, share knowledge and support others • Thoughtful troubleshooting approach • Clear, friendly communication and enthusiasm for collaborating in a primarily remote team • Experience with PHP and WordPress is useful • Familiarity with Heroku, AWS or Cloudflare is useful • Experience with CRM systems, databases and ticketing platforms used by arts and cultural organisations is useful • Participation in an out-of-hours on-call rota, covering up to eight one-week rotations per year
