Getting interviews · Lesson 7 of 8
A thoughtful follow-up can move an application forward. A generic “just checking in” rarely does.
If you have a contact (recruiter, referral, or someone you connected with), a short follow-up about a week after applying is reasonable.
Keep it to a few sentences. Don’t follow up more than once or twice unless they ask for more. Repeated empty follow-ups start to feel like pressure.
If you applied with no contact, follow-up is less useful. Spend that time finding a warmer path in (referral or a direct message to someone on the team).
