Summary
Ask for 15 minutes to learn about a role, team, or company, not to ask for a job directly. This is one of the most underused job search tools.
Reach out with a short, specific ask.
- Good: “I noticed you work in operations here. Would you be open to a brief call so I can learn more about the team?”
- Weak: vague “pick your brain” requests
If the chat goes well, ask for a warm next step.
- “Is there anyone else here you think I should talk to?”
- “Would you be comfortable introducing me if a relevant role opens up?”
A warm introduction from someone inside the company carries far more weight than a cold application.
