Creating a target company list

Summary

  • Skip the scattergun approach of applying to every vaguely relevant job. Build a targeted company list instead.

  • Start with about 20 to 30 companies you care about (use AI or desk research). Include places where you know people and companies you’ve seen in the news.

  • For each company, check:

    • Are they hiring now, and for what kinds of roles?
    • Do you already have a LinkedIn connection there to reach out to?
  • Mix dream / stretch companies with more realistic ones. You can still apply outside the list ad hoc, but the list keeps you focused.

  • Use Remote Rocketship filters to discover remote-friendly companies you don’t know yet.

  • For each target company:

    1. Follow the company page on LinkedIn
    2. Set up job alerts across your platforms
    3. Follow talent / hiring managers and engage (comment, repost) to build visibility
