Summary

  • LinkedIn gives you two ways to signal availability (same feature, different visibility):

    1. All LinkedIn members: adds the green #OpenToWork photo frame. Everyone can see it, including coworkers.
    2. Recruiters only: no green frame. Only people using LinkedIn Recruiter see you’re open (LinkedIn tries to hide this from recruiters at your current company, but can’t guarantee complete privacy).
  • Suze’s take: if you’re between jobs, the public green banner has little stigma. If you’re employed, the discreet option matters more. For most people we recommend Recruiters only.

  • How to turn on Open to Work (choose Recruiters only):

    1. Open your LinkedIn profile (desktop or mobile app)
    2. Click Open to under your profile photo / intro card (or Get started in the “Show recruiters you’re open to work” box near the top of your profile)
    3. Choose Finding a new job
    4. Fill in job titles, locations, start date / availability, and job types (full time, contract, etc.) plus workplace type if shown (remote, hybrid, on site)
    5. Under visibility, select Recruiters only (not “All LinkedIn members”). This is the discreet option with no green photo frame.
    6. Save
  • To edit or turn it off later: go back to Open toFinding a new job, then change visibility or remove Open to Work from your profile.
