Summary

  • About 60 to 70% of roles are never publicly advertised. If you only apply to posted jobs, you’re competing in roughly 20 to 30% of the market.

  • Visibility on LinkedIn is a primary way into the hidden market, you have to sell yourself consistently.

  • Post consistently:

    • Ideally daily
    • Minimum about 2 to 3× per week
    • Sporadic posting means people forget you
  • Mix formats: original posts, comments, and thoughtful reposts (especially of companies you want to work at).

    • Example cadence: 1 to 2 thought leadership posts + at least one meaningful comment per week
  • You don’t need thousands of followers, you need the right ones who see your posts and comments.

  • Pick a focused theme (e.g. how your industry is changing) and stick to it for weeks so people learn what you stand for.

  • Consistent topical posting often leads to inbound outreach, including unadvertised roles.
