• Perform pre-award and/or award management activities for the Schools of Medicine • Review department proposals before submission for compliance with University policy and Federal regulations • Review and set up awards to facilitate long-term management • Review prior approval requests, rebudgets, extensions, and closeout activities • Cross-train to provide coverage for both pre-award and award management functions • Assist PIs and Grant Managers with proposal budgets and compliant proposal materials • Interpret sponsor guidelines, University policies, and Federal regulations • Review proposals for institutional risk, accuracy, correct rates, allowability, clearances, and compliance approvals • Ensure subcontractor documentation is complete • Verify proposal packages meet sponsor submission standards and are submitted timely • Review award terms and conditions and communicate issues to PIs or designated administrators • Request and review revised budgets • Initiate or approve account setup and process new awards • Liaise between sponsors and investigators to resolve project issues and prior approval requests • Review rebudgets, CAS, no-cost extensions, carryover, closeout, residual balance, and other award management requests • Coordinate and review project closeout • Stay current on internal and external policy and procedure changes • Provide compliance guidance to ORA and the School of Medicine research community • Participate in special projects and initiatives assigned by department leadership
• Bachelor's degree program generally acquired for communications, analytical, and organizational skills • No experience required for candidates with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a field directly related to the specific position • Successful completion of required department training, including GC101 & 201 Introduction to Research, Financial Services Introduction to R3, Introduction to Duke GL, Introduction to Accounting, Sponsored Research Reporting, Research Administration at Duke, and Basic Compliance, within the first six months of hire • Successful completion of the Research Administration Academy (RAA) is required • Employees hired without RAA training must complete it within 12 months of start date • Maintain requirements for the appropriate level • Maintain RAA certification through continuing education requirements • Pre- and/or post-grant awards experience is strongly preferred • Research or grants education and/or certification is preferred
