📋 Description

• Own political strategy for building relationships with key decision-makers in a portfolio of Midwest states • Develop and deploy communication strategies incorporating state-specific energy outlooks and political landscapes • Represent United before state decision-makers • Build, maintain, and own relationships with policymakers, advocacy groups, coalitions, industry experts, and regulators • Use project management tools and systems to deliver short- and long-term goals • Maintain and organize information for program knowledge management and retention • Communicate campaign progress, outcomes, and key metrics to internal and external stakeholders, including member companies • Contribute to strategy and tactic ideation and development to improve program efficacy • Travel to meet key stakeholders approximately 1–2 times per quarter

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience • 3–6 years of professional experience, ideally including 2 or more years in roles that engage with elected officials • Commitment to and track record of leading work aligned with United’s Core Values • Experience related to political and/or advocacy campaigns • Experience working on advocacy or policy affecting the advanced energy industry is a plus • Ability to assess audiences and tailor engagement and communication strategies • Ability to build rapport quickly with key stakeholders • Ability to convey essential components of technical subject matter effectively to decision-makers • Track record supporting multi-stakeholder programs or campaigns • Independent self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit • Comfort working remotely, owning new projects, managing one’s own calendar, and delivering on high expectations • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills • Experience managing confidential information and intelligence • Comfort working amid ambiguity and rapidly changing political dynamics • Willingness to travel as needed, approximately 1–2 times per quarter • Residence in the United States required • Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, or Wisconsin residence/background preferred
