• Review documentation in the electronic medical record and assign and sequence ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes • Follow AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding, ICD-10 Official Coding Guidelines, and other regulatory requirements • Code inpatient, observation, and surgical accounts • Apply Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) methodologies, including present on admission indicators • Analyze medical record documentation for complications and comorbidities • Perform physician queries and clarify documentation • Complete charge verification • Apply CPT, HCPCS, and modifier codes for outpatient claims • Work edits and denials through claim scrubber queues • Work as a team member and independently • Follow safe work practices and Amberwell procedures and policies
• Minimum one year of inpatient and surgery coding experience • High school diploma • Graduate of a Medical Coding Program • One of the following required certifications: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) • Preferred: two years of progressive inpatient facility coding experience • Preferred: one year of orthopedic surgery coding experience • Preferred: graduate of a Health Information Technology program • Preferred: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification • Ability to work as a member of a team and independently • Understanding of and adherence to safe work practices • Ability to follow established Amberwell procedures and policies
