📋 Description

• Facilitate clinical workflow discussions and education across teams • Translate customer and market needs into recommendations for product and engineering prioritization and roadmap planning • Lead clinical informatics efforts and provide clinical guidance on strategic initiatives, data analysis, and product direction • Serve as a senior clinical partner to Clinical Content, Clinical Terminology, Clinical Informatics, Patient Safety, and Specialty Business Segment teams • Build and support clinical leaders across the organization • Provide clinical input into competitive positioning and identify factors influencing customer retention and growth • Partner with Customer Success, Product Optimization, and other teams on high-priority customer issues and resolution • Represent athenahealth in external forums, industry events, and customer-facing engagements • Apply AI tools and AI-enabled workflows to review clinical information and synthesize customer and product input, validating outputs before decisions • Travel 25–40% annually • Co-lead the Clinical Advisory Board • Co-lead the Council of Medical Executives • Participate in sales demonstrations and prospect conversations • Contribute to thought leadership through webinars, blogs, bylines, podcasts, email campaigns, and other forums • Monitor healthcare policy, EHR regulation, value-based care, and clinical informatics trends • Support communications requiring clinical subject matter expertise • Partner with legal, public relations, user experience, and other business units on clinical matters • Report to the Chief Medical Officer

🎯 Requirements

• Medical degree (MD or DO) required • Board certification required • Minimum 10 years of clinical experience as a practicing physician, with progression into healthcare leadership roles • Clinical informatics experience required • Patient safety experience required • Deep experience with athenahealth EHR use, configuration, and optimization in clinical practice required • Demonstrated ability to work across a matrixed organization and influence through credibility, collaboration, and sound reasoning • Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, pave paths where none exist, and drive action and iterative progress in an agile software development environment • Preferred clinical background in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, or OB/Gyn • Board certification in Clinical Informatics preferred • CPPS certification preferred • Experience working across multiple specialties preferred • Experience in customer-facing, commercial, or advisory board settings preferred • Active, unrestricted medical license preferred • Ability to provide clinical patient care on the athenahealth platform up to 1 day per week strongly preferred
