📋 Description

• Write high-impact local news items in Axios’ Smart Brevity style (typically short-form, daily pieces) • Jump on timely stories, events and trends • Contribute to Axios Local newsletters, plus their websites and social media accounts as needed, often with a daily turnaround • Collaborate with an editor and/or full-time newsletter author(s) • Help fill longer coverage gaps occasionally, (e.g. 1-3 months) as needed

🎯 Requirements

• Strong news judgment and clean, concise writing • Ability to move quickly and hit deadlines • Omnivorous curiosity and enthusiasm for reporting & writing about numerous subject areas, from sports to business to dining to development to how we get around • Comfort writing in a conversational, reader-first voice • Equally comfortable doing original reporting and smart aggregation • Experience with newsletters or audience-focused writing • Familiarity with our Smart Brevity style (or willingness to learn fast) • Strong communication skills and experience working in a remote environment • A self-starter: While you may be assigned some stories, you'll be counted on to bring executable ideas forward every day
