📋 Description

• Lead BusPatrol’s public policy development, government relations strategies, and legislative enablement efforts • Manage offensive legislation and glitch bills/defense bills protecting and expanding automated school bus stop-arm enforcement, Speed Zone Safety, and related initiatives • Direct complex political and advocacy strategies in complex political environments • Coordinate internal subject matter experts to fulfill government relations and policy delivery requirements • Supervise the internal government relations team • Manage external contract lobbyists and outside counsel • Identify and coordinate Business Development consultants and align GR/BD work with political strategies • Develop state-by-state policy tactics and strategies with Growth, Legal, and Communications teams • Work with U.S. municipalities and school districts on policies for traffic safety, automated enforcement, and smart city data platforms • Build local champions’ and partners’ capacity to engage state and local leaders • Promote violator-funded safety programs and secure legislative and regulatory frameworks for new deployments in target growth states • Travel and speak on behalf of BusPatrol and its safety coalition • Testify at legislative hearings, participate in workshops and conferences, and engage in media interviews • Support established coalitions and work with the Gov Ops team on targeted policy and legislative initiatives

🎯 Requirements

• Minimum of 10+ years of leadership experience • Mix of state and local in-government experience followed by advocacy or government relations roles • State lobbying experience required; lobbying only in a large municipality is insufficient • Proven track record of successfully lobbying multi-state legislation on contentious political issues • Proven leadership in a legislative enablement function managing policy and government relations at enterprise scale • Experience as the #1 leader of a policy or government relations function • Deep knowledge of the state and local legislative process • Strong background in legislative defense, glitch bills, and complex political strategies • Staff management and project management experience • Experience managing remote teams and contract lobbyists • Excellent time management, organizational, and research skills • Ability to prioritize workload and execute high-volume work in a fast-paced, hyper-growth environment • Superb written and verbal communication skills • Ability to draft legislation and policy memos • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite • Comfort working with CRM and legislative tracking software • JD or advanced degree in public policy, public administration, political science, planning, or related field preferred
