• Oversee loan underwriting functions and the full lifecycle of new originations • Guide restructuring and workout analysis for existing borrowers in alignment with organizational risk appetite • Manage a team of commercial underwriters supporting Community Development Lending originations and existing portfolio borrowers • Lead underwriting of complex transactions from screening through closing • Evaluate transaction structure, risk/return, policy exceptions, mitigants and creditworthiness; recommend approval, modification, escalation or decline • Provide technical structuring guidance on risk mitigants, covenants, reserves, conditions and other structural matters • Serve as primary interface for underwriting processes and participate in deal, pipeline and credit office-hours discussions • Manage internal workflow and due diligence to close loans • Support strategic and tactical planning for CDL Origination, Credit and Risk teams • Conduct training, share lessons learned and collaborate with internal stakeholders and external peer CDFIs • Manage direct reports through 1:1s, coaching, training, goal setting and performance assessment • Hire staff and provide input on staffing and workforce planning • Oversee underwriting quality, compliance with policies, guarantees, credit enhancements and lending tools • Evaluate downside, stress, exit and recovery scenarios for existing and distressed borrowers • Review amendment memos, credit memos and credit analyses for completeness and quality • Challenge assumptions, projections, valuations, business plans, transaction structures and workout strategies • Identify early warning indicators and recommend strategies to improve borrower performance and mitigate financial exposure • Use portfolio performance, delinquency, modification, restructuring, charge-off and workout data to improve underwriting guidelines and transaction structuring • Oversee underwriting checklists, closing deadlines, workload allocation, service-level agreements and pipeline management • Partner with technology and operations excellence on automation, templates, process mapping, testing and process improvement • Maintain and update underwriting guidelines, procedures, policies and supporting materials • Support credit and risk special projects, new lending products and other functions as assigned • Support data integrity in accordance with organizational policies
• Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in business or public administration, finance or related field preferred; education level considered holistically with work experience • 10 years of advanced commercial and community development lending underwriting and/or lending experience • Experience with cash flow analysis, sensitivity analysis, stress testing, leverage and liquidity analysis, collateral and guarantor evaluation, risk ratings, debt service capacity assessment, collateral valuation, loan structuring and risk mitigations • Demonstrated experience exercising credit judgment and making or presenting recommendations on complex transactions, policy exceptions, restructuring and significant amendments and modifications • Minimum of three (3) years managing direct reports • Strong underwriting, credit risk management and impact area expertise • Strong written and verbal communication, management/coaching, process management, operational effectiveness, decision-making and analytical skills • Ability to maintain big-picture focus while attending to detailed work and providing thorough documentation • Ability to work productively and accurately in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and stringent deadlines • Strong proficiency using Google, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Salesforce and other loan origination systems • Ability to learn and adapt to a changing IT environment • Professionalism, diplomacy, composure and flexibility • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across all organizational levels • Strong loan compliance and risk management capabilities; sound judgment and ability to manage ambiguity, complexity and organizational financial exposure • Strong commitment to the Momentus mission • Previous Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) experience is a plus • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; company will not sponsor work visas
