📋 Description

• Partner with the Editor in Chief to set and execute Chalkbeat’s editorial vision • Oversee several local bureaus and reporting teams • Ensure Chalkbeat coverage drives informed decision-making and debate • Coach leaders on setting and achieving goals, monitoring progress, and supporting professional growth • Support implementation of Civic News Academy • Lead high-priority initiatives, including impact tracking improvements, newsroom AI strategy development, and future geographic expansion • Collaborate with the growth and community team to expand the loyal audience • Ensure enterprise projects are compelling and well executed • Represent organizational priorities to local teams and communicate local priorities back to the organization

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of work experience, including leadership experience • Experience reporting and editing breaking news, daily, and enterprise stories • Track record of leading effective teams with inspiration, high standards, and accountability • Experience coaching employees at different experience levels • Track record of managing complex projects from initial vision through sustainable processes • Experience developing editorial strategy and building an audience • Deep knowledge of America’s education story and curiosity about its future • Authorization to work in the U.S.
