📋 Description

• Own the TTS research and model roadmap, selecting technical directions that can materially improve speech-generation quality • Drive advances in neural audio modeling, prosody and expressiveness, controllability, multilingual speech, voice identity and consistency, data and training strategy, post-training, and inference performance • Ensure research advances become measurable production gains • Review research, challenge assumptions, design experiments, diagnose model failures, and solve high-leverage technical problems • Build evaluation and benchmarking combining automated metrics with human perceptual assessment • Lead individual contributors and tech lead managers • Hire and develop researchers and technical leaders, maintain a high technical bar, and set direction across sub-teams • Partner with engineering and product leadership on ship-readiness • Represent Deepgram’s TTS research internally and externally • Build the team and operating model for fast, high-quality research execution

🎯 Requirements

• Deep expertise in modern TTS, speech generation, or audio generative modeling • Track record of personally training and improving large-scale neural models • Command of the modern speech-generation stack and open problems in naturalness, expressiveness, controllability, robustness, voice consistency, and inference cost • Experience setting research direction under uncertainty, prioritizing experiments, allocating compute and researcher time, and ending ineffective approaches • Experience leading researchers and research engineers through other technical leaders, including developing tech lead managers or equivalent • AI as a default mode of work, with experience rebuilding workflows around AI and a specific view of its limitations in speech research • Ability to communicate complex technical tradeoffs to product, engineering, and executive audiences • TTS or generative-audio models deployed at meaningful production scale • Experience building or substantially scaling a high-performing AI research organization • Experience with evaluation systems for generative speech, expressive or multilingual generation, voice cloning and adaptation, or controllable generation • Recognized external contributions such as publications, open source, patents, or invited talks • Experience in fast-moving startup or research environments taking models from idea to production • Must be legally authorized to work in the country where the role is located • Must address visa sponsorship requirements in the application
