📋 Description

• Serve as the principal legal advisor to Empower’s defined benefit and multiemployer (Taft-Hartley) business • Lead legal support for the operation and growth of defined benefit and multiemployer businesses • Advise on complex ERISA, tax, fiduciary, administrative, operational, compliance, and regulatory matters • Support product enhancements, operational improvements, strategic initiatives, and client solutions • Advise on retirement and employee benefit product and service development, enhancement, and administration • Partner with Product, Operations, Client Service, Sales, Investments, Marketing, Compliance, Risk Management, Finance, Technology, and other functions • Develop legal frameworks, governance processes, and compliance practices • Advise on defined benefit plan qualification, design, administration, funding, freezes, mergers, spin-offs, and terminations • Provide legal guidance on recordkeeping, trust and custody, administrative services, participant services, and investment-related offerings • Support health and welfare plans and consumer directed healthcare arrangements • Support defined contribution plans, IRAs, rollover solutions, and other retirement products • Advise on operational and fiduciary correction matters, including EPCRS and Department of Labor correction programs • Monitor legislative, regulatory, and industry developments and translate requirements into practical guidance • Support negotiations involving retirement plan services and related commercial arrangements • Lead complex cross-functional initiatives and influence decision-making across a matrixed organization • Build collaborative relationships and foster practical, business-oriented legal advice

🎯 Requirements

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school • Active license to practice law • 12+ years of relevant legal experience • Recognized expertise advising on defined benefit plans and multiemployer (Taft-Hartley) plans • Experience with plan qualification, funding, administration, fiduciary matters, operational compliance, correction programs, ERISA and tax issues • Experience advising on health and welfare plans and applicable employee benefits laws • Experience advising on defined contribution plans, IRAs, and other retirement savings products • Demonstrated knowledge of ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, Treasury regulations, IRS and Department of Labor guidance, and other laws governing retirement and employee benefit plans • Ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical, business-focused advice • Experience partnering with business leaders and influencing decisions across multiple business functions • Strong judgment and ability to navigate complex legal and business issues • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.; employment visa sponsorship is unavailable, including CPT/OPT
