• Investigate and analyze the origin and cause of fire and explosion events within residential, commercial, and industrial sites per NFPA 921 and 1033 • Collect evidence and document scenes per NFPA 921 and 1033 • Photograph incident sites and record when required or requested • Preserve equipment/components and store retrieved evidence for further evaluation and review pending client written disposition instructions • Interview owners, occupants, tenants, witnesses, responding and investigating fire service personnel, and local officials • Canvas neighborhoods to identify potential witnesses and record statements • Identify, document, and analyze compliance with applicable codes for installed fire suppression and detection systems • Research failure modes and code requirements and prepare recommendations for stakeholders • Prepare accurate, clear, thorough, and concise reports and letters outlining damage cause and origin for clients • Apply established policies, procedures, and processes while exercising sound judgment in unusual or complicated situations • Submit reports and documents in a timely manner according to client standards and expectations • Work proactively with multidisciplinary teams on large and complex assignments • Assist coworkers as needed and learn from colleagues and supervisors • Maintain established relationships with current clients and consultants
• 5+ years of experience as a fire investigator • Combination of public- and private-sector experience is ideal • Combination of education and experience will be considered • IAAI CFI required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire • NAFI-CFEI certification • Must be bondable • Eligible for licensing as a private investigator where required • May need to pass written testing for licensing in some jurisdictions • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills • Ability to work in catastrophic environments, including aftermaths of natural disasters and weather events, for extended periods • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle for work • Experience with commercial and industrial facilities desired • Experience with law firms and insurance companies is a plus • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field is preferred
