• Investigate and analyze the origin and cause of fire and explosion events at residential, commercial, and industrial sites according to NFPA 921 and 1033 • Collect evidence and document scenes according to NFPA 921 and 1033 • Photograph incident sites, record when required or requested, preserve equipment/components, and store retrieved evidence pending client disposition instructions • Interview owners, occupants, tenants, witnesses, responding and investigating fire service personnel, and local officials • Canvass neighborhoods to identify potential witnesses and record statements • Identify, document, and analyze compliance with applicable codes for installed fire suppression and detection systems • Research failure modes and code requirements and prepare recommendations for stakeholders • Prepare accurate, clear, thorough, and concise client reports and letters outlining damage cause and origin • Apply established policies, procedures, and processes while exercising sound judgment in unusual or complicated situations • Submit reports and documents promptly according to client standards and expectations • Work proactively with multidisciplinary teams on large and complex assignments • Assist coworkers, learn from colleagues and supervisors, and maintain relationships with current clients and consultants
• 5+ years of experience as a fire investigator • IAAI CFI required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire • NAFI-CFEI certification • Must be bondable and eligible for licensing as a private investigator where required • Must meet written private-investigator licensing testing requirements in jurisdictions where applicable • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills • Ability to work in catastrophic environments for extended periods • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in a work capacity • Experience with commercial and industrial facilities is desired • Experience working with law firms and insurance companies is a plus • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field is preferred
