• Support R&D projects related to grid modeling and stability analysis • Analyze power systems with high levels of inverter-based renewable resources • Run dynamic simulations using PSSE and PSLF • Work with individual device models, including inverter-based resources and large loads • Run PSCAD electromagnetic transient simulations • Analyze inverter-based resource controls and their power-system impacts
• Minimum of 2 years of PhD studies in Electrical Engineering focusing on Power systems • Familiarity with procedures for running dynamic simulations in PSSE and PSLF • Familiarity with individual device models, including inverter-based resources (IBRs) and large loads • Familiarity with running PSCAD • Working knowledge of inverter-based resource controls and power system impacts of control architecture • Strong experience with control system theory and analysis • Familiarity with wind/solar inverter modeling and simulation is a plus • Strong experience with electromagnetic transient simulation tools, preferably PSCAD • Strong experience with electromechanical dynamics simulation tools, preferably PSS/E and PSLF • Strong programming skills, preferably in Python and Matlab • Strong technical writing and presentation skills • Ability to work at minimum in the 2026 Fall semester (August–December) • Student employee subject to E-Verify work-status verification
