📋 Description

• Create and fully own a growing portfolio of Focused Research Organizations and other scientific projects advancing AI resilience • Roadmap the AI resilience landscape to identify bottlenecks and keystone capabilities • Source and diligence ideas for projects and organizations • Design funding calls in partnership with funders • Build founding teams and recruit early hires • Contribute to and coach founders on technical and organizational roadmaps, fundraising, and startup operations • Serve as a Director on multiple FRO boards • Keep teams on track against milestones and advise on funding, strategic direction, hiring, firing, and operations • Represent Convergent externally and build relationships with philanthropic and public funders • Contribute to Convergent-wide initiatives such as Founder Retreats and Residencies

🎯 Requirements

• Granular understanding of the AI landscape of 2026, including who is building what, why, and on what timeline • A view on where the rest of the world is exposed, which exposures are tractable, how they might be addressed through technical methods, and who is developing those ideas • Ideas or a credible plan to find ideas for large-scale efforts that measurably improve how the world weathers the AI transition • Ability to argue passionately for a thesis about where philanthropic capital should go and argue the opposing view equally well • Technical fluency in frontier AI sufficient to distinguish real bottlenecks from fashionable ones • Deep network in the field • Experience at a startup, venture firm, or building something independently • Experience raising money, owning a budget, writing technical roadmaps, and hiring people • Experience assembling a group to accomplish a difficult technical project successfully • Experience with boards, governance, or nonprofit leadership • Clear communication and ability to move fast
