📋 Description

• Submit medical claims to insurance companies and payers such as Medicare and Medicaid • Work directly with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients to process and secure payment of claims • Review and appeal unpaid and denied claims • Process patient and insurance refund requests and post payments or denials from insurance remits • Assist patients with information for charity, Medicaid, or payment plans • Use coded data to produce and submit claims to insurance companies • Maintain knowledge of current billing rules and trends through seminars, workshops, and webinars • Assist patients with benefit verification, scheduling, and account creation • Ensure weekly, monthly, and quarterly department goals are met • Use eCW and multiple payer portals • Obtain referrals and pre-authorizations for procedures • Check eligibility and benefits for treatments, hospitalizations, and procedures • Review patient bills for accuracy and completeness and obtain missing information • Prepare, review, and transmit electronic and paper claims using billing software • Follow up on unpaid claims within the standard billing cycle • Check insurance payments for accuracy and contract-discount compliance • Contact insurance companies regarding payment discrepancies • Identify secondary and tertiary insurance coverage • Set up patient payment plans and work collection accounts • Update billing software with rate changes • Update cash spreadsheets and collection reports • Comply with HIPAA and the Privacy Act

🎯 Requirements

• Minimum of one year of experience with medical billing • High School Diploma or GED • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Internet • Professional interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written • Good work habits and good attendance • Ability to work independently • Strong problem-solving skills • Knowledge of chemical dependency and its effects on individuals, families, and communities preferred • Must comply with HIPAA and the Privacy Act
