📋 Description

• Remotely code and validate physician and other professional services for VISN 7 • Review inpatient and outpatient professional-service documentation • Identify reportable diagnoses, procedures, services, and provider data • Assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II codes for professional-fee encounters • Select and sequence evaluation and management codes using current guidelines and documentation requirements • Apply Correct Coding Initiative bundling rules and appropriate modifiers • Determine whether documentation supports billable services • Identify unsupported, duplicate, incomplete, or incorrectly created encounters • Abstract required data and enter or validate information in CPRS, VistA, approved encoder systems, and authorized VA applications • Verify provider information and scope of practice • Re-review coded encounters during pre-bill review or following denials; make corrections or provide coding justification • Communicate documentation deficiencies, coding questions, and workflow concerns • Protect VA information and follow privacy, information-security, encryption, and remote-work requirements • Complete orientation, annual training, quality reviews, and corrective education • Maintain required credentials, access approvals, and professional coding knowledge

🎯 Requirements

• U.S. citizenship • English-language proficiency; ability to read, write, speak, and understand English • At least two years of coding experience in the specific coding area assigned • Formal training in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pathology and disease processes, pharmacology, health-record content, reimbursement methodologies, and current coding systems • Active RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P credential from AHIMA, or active CPC or CPC-H credential from AAPC • Proficiency with ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS as applicable, CPT, HCPCS Level II, coding guidelines, encoder tools, electronic health records, CPRS, and VistA-related data entry • Minimum 95% coding accuracy and ability to meet assigned turnaround and quality requirements • Successful completion of Low Risk NACI background process and required VA privacy, information-security, and mandatory training • Ability to work securely and independently from an approved location within the United States while protecting VA information • Current resume documenting at least two years of experience in the applicable coding specialty • Signed Letter of Intent and completed candidate cover page • Proof of active accepted AHIMA or AAPC credential and supporting education or training documents • OIG exclusion search results and requested background, security, identification, privacy, training, or onboarding documents
