📋 Description

• Work alongside and under the direct supervision of a qualified FSS inspector • Inspect, test, and maintain water-based fire protection systems in commercial, industrial, and multifamily buildings • Help inspect and test wet pipe, dry pipe, pre-action, deluge, and antifreeze sprinkler systems, standpipes, and fire pumps • Visually inspect sprinklers, piping, hangers, bracing, control valves, gauges, fire department connections, and signage • Help operate control valves and perform main drain, waterflow alarm, and valve supervisory switch tests • Help perform dry pipe valve trip tests, quick-opening device tests, air supply and low-air alarm checks, and fire pump tests • Check antifreeze concentration, spare sprinkler cabinets, gauge dates, and other NFPA 25 requirements • Perform minor maintenance and corrective work as directed by the supervising inspector • Confirm with building contacts and alarm monitoring companies that systems may be tested • Follow FSS impairment procedures when systems are taken out of service • Confirm systems are back in service, control valves are open and supervised, and relevant parties are notified before leaving sites • Treat customers, building occupants, and site staff courteously and respect property, schedules, and site rules • Accurately record inspection and test results in FSS forms or software, including photos of deficiencies • Report deficiencies to the supervising inspector the same day and immediately report conditions that could prevent system operation • Follow the FSS Safety Program, OSHA requirements, site-specific safety rules, and PPE requirements • Use ladders, lifts, and equipment only after receiving training and authorization • Immediately report injuries, near misses, property damage, and vehicle incidents • Safely drive a company vehicle between job sites in compliance with FSS policies • Complete assigned classroom, online, and on-the-job training and track training hours • Work toward NICET Level I certification and higher levels • Obtain and maintain any state-required apprentice or trainee registration

🎯 Requirements

• At least 18 years of age • High school diploma or GED • Valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets the standards of FSS and its insurance carrier • Basic math skills, including reading pressure gauges and performing simple calculations • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn how fire protection systems work • Ability to use a smartphone or tablet to complete reports • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and to communicate clearly with coworkers and customers • Successful completion of pre-employment screening after a conditional offer of employment, which may include a background check, motor vehicle record review, and drug screen, as permitted by applicable state and local law • Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds • Ability to climb and work from ladders and lifts, including at heights • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, and reach overhead for extended periods • Ability to read gauges, tags, and labels and distinguish colors • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in heat, cold, rain, snow, noise, dust, and wet conditions • Ability to work a full-time schedule that may include early starts, overtime, and occasional evening or weekend work • Some overnight travel within the FSS service territory may be required • Preferred: Experience in plumbing, pipefitting, HVAC, mechanical service, or fire protection, including military experience • Preferred: Vocational or technical school coursework • Preferred: OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification • Preferred: Experience with hand tools, ladders, and aerial or scissor lifts
